Top Legislator Sets Tasks for NPC Standing Committee

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo says the National People's Congress should continue to improve its ability to develop socialist democratic politics.

He notes that the NPC system should be improved by giving full play to the role of NPC deputies and strengthening the NPC Standing Committee.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress delivered his NPC Standing Committee work report to the annual parliamentary session.

Wu Bangguo's report reviews the work of the NPC in the past year and lays out the major tasks for this year.

The top legislator also says enacting the Anti-Secession Law is a solemn mission of the legislature.

He says the draft Anti-Secession Law expresses China's consistent position of sincerely doing its utmost to achieve peaceful reunification.

The draft Anti-Secession Law is scheduled to be adopted during this NPC session which ends March 14.
