Foreign Ministry Spokesperson's Remarks on China's attitude towards international cooperation in exploration and peaceful use of the outer space

Q: After the successful launch of China's Shenzhou 5, some countries announced their outer space exploration plans. What's China's attitude towards international cooperation in exploration and peaceful use of the outer space?

A: We have always supported activities by the UN and various space fairing countries in exploring and making peaceful use of the outer space, believing that the ultimate goal is to create a better living and developing space for mankind. Peaceful use of the outer space will help to promote the friendly cooperation among people around the world and socail progress. It will also benefit security, survival and development of mankind as well as global economic properity and well-beings. Success of the space activities not only belongs to the state and nation but also to all the human beings.

In the meantime, we believe that exploration and peaceful use of the outer space is a complicated and strenuous undertaking with high risks and high input. It's hard to make achievements by one or two countries alone. Therefore, wide international cooperation has become an effective way to promote the development and application of space science and technology so as to let it better serve our society. We stand ready to enhance the exchanges and cooperation with various countries in the space field under the principle of "peaceful use, equality and mutual benefit, mutual complementarity and common development" so as to make contributions to mankind's exploration and peaceful use of the outer space.
