UN Holds Tsunami Donors Conference
2005-01-07 00:00

The United Nations has held an international conference between country donors in Geneva to exchange opinions on relieving victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

Ambassador Sha Zukang of the Chinese Mission in Geneva attended the meeting and introduced China's efforts to help the victims.

The ambassador said the Chinese government highly appreciates and supports the overall UN role as coordinator of the massive international relief effort.

UN Relief agency chief Jan Egeland offered the UN's support for the United States' decision to dissolve the core group of nations and hand total control of the relief effort to the UN.

The core group, comprised of the US, Japan, Australia and India, was formed last week to expedite aid for victims of the disaster.
