The 9th Informal APEC Leadership Meeting will be
held in Shanghai on 20 and 21 October. During the meeting,
leaders of the APEC members will gather in Shanghai for
discussions on strategies relating to economic cooperation
in the Asia Pacific region. They will also have an in-depth
exchange of views on the macro-economic situation facing the
Asia Pacific region, human capacity building, future
direction of APEC and other issues. China’s President
Jiang Zemin will chair the Informal Leadership Meeting. A
Leaders Declaration will be issued at the end of the
Meeting.
The 13th APEC Ministerial Meeting will
be held in Shanghai on 17 and 18 October. The ministers of
the APEC members attending the meeting will hold discussions
on questions, such as APEC trade and investment
liberalization, economic and technological cooperation, the
new economy and regional macro-policy dialogue. They will
also make preparations for the Leadership Meeting.
China’s Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and Foreign
Trade Minister Shi Guangsheng will preside over the
Ministerial Meeting. A Ministerial Statement will be issued
at the end of the meeting. An Informal Senior
Officials’ Meeting will be held prior to the
Ministerial Meeting.
